Now for the first time one of the patients is breaking her silence and filing a civil suit for millions of dollars.
Holly Hord, a 26-year-old mother of two, is actually the first patient who came forward in the criminal case which lists eight other women. That trial is expected to begin in August in Monroe County.
Now Hord is going after Dr. Abdullahi Mohamed and the hospital that employed him for millions of dollars.
“Please don’t let this man intimidate you because I let him do it to me for months,” says Holly Hord of Newport.
Hord says she’s been a patient of Monroe psychiatrist Abdullahi Mohamed for years.
But six months ago she says her appointments at Mercy Nursing Center, operated by Mercy Memorial Hospital – an independent hospital in Monroe, turned sexual.
“His behavior just made a complete switch,” says Hord. “I trusted him completely with my life to give me medicine that’s supposed to make me better.”
In May Hord says the touching turned to intercourse, so she contacted the state police. Other alleged victims came forward.
“A psychiatrist predator who has visited upon at least nine known victims of sexual assault in the confines of a therapeutic relationship,” says Gregory Rohl, Hord’s attorney.
58-year-old Mohamed is facing criminal sexual charges in Monroe County. He’s free on $100,000 bond.
“He held their drugs over them and would write their prescriptions and give their medication after interactions with them. It was a quid-pro-quo sexual relationship,” says Rohl.
This week Hord also filed a civil suit in Wayne County Circuit Court against Mohamed, Mercy Nursing Center, and Mercy Memorial Hospital – which has no affiliation with Toledo’s Mercy Hospital System.
Hord is seeking $10 million in damages.
13 ABC went to Mohamed’s home in Dearborn Heights, but no one answered the door.
Barry Resnick, the defense attorney who represents Mohamed on the criminal charges in Monroe County, tells 13 ABC, the doctor “adamantly and categorically denies each and every allegation.”
Meanwhile, Hord says she’s struggling to move on.
”I have no trust with anybody anymore. I feel I can’t trust anybody right now,” says Hord.
